Add turmeric and garam masala to the onions, mix well. Add grated tomatoes and diced carrots, sauté for 10 minutes. Add the cooked chickpeas to the mixture and stir. Season with salt and pepper, let it simmer for 20 minutes. Add cilantro and butter, mix well. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Remove from heat.
